Ski Kidsgrove is operated by North Staffs Ski Club, a long-established club run by skiers for skiers. The club owns the equipment and facilities at the centre and operates on a non-profit basis, with revenue reinvested into improvements to the slope, equipment and surrounding facilities.
Staff and instructors are volunteer club members who give their time to support other skiers and help maintain a welcoming local snowsports community. The club’s aim is to promote skiing and keep participation affordable for members.
North Staffs Ski Club
North Staffs Ski Club has been established for more than 35 years and plays a central role in the operation of Ski Kidsgrove. The club manages the slope, facilities and equipment while providing access to skiing for people of different ages and ability levels.
Its volunteer-led structure helps create a friendly atmosphere, with experienced members supporting others who are learning or developing their technique.
Dry Ski Slope and Facilities
The slope at Ski Kidsgrove is approximately 85 metres long and is served by a button-style ski lift with an uplift capacity of around 500 skiers per hour.
Following a lottery grant in 2004, the slope was re-graded and fitted with a Playgrass surface. This carpet-style surface was introduced to provide a skiing feel closer to snow while also improving safety.
The slope is fully floodlit, allowing skiing during both daytime and evening sessions and in a wide range of weather conditions.
Affordable Local Skiing
The club operates on a non-profit basis and aims to keep skiing accessible at affordable prices. Money generated through the centre is used to maintain and improve the slope, facilities and equipment rather than being distributed as profit.
This approach supports regular local participation and gives members the opportunity to practise skiing without needing to travel to a mountain resort.
Ski Lodge and Family Atmosphere
A ski lodge is available at the centre, together with a tea shop and space for members to meet before or after skiing. The club places strong emphasis on creating a relaxed and family-friendly atmosphere.
This social side of the club helps make Ski Kidsgrove more than simply a training venue, giving members a place to meet other skiers and become involved in the wider club community.
Club Events and Activities
North Staffs Ski Club also organises a range of social activities away from the slope. These can include bike rides, club walks, camping weekends and organised holidays.
Information about upcoming activities is usually shared through the club’s events information, regular newsletter and notice boards in the ski lodge. These activities add a social dimension to membership and help connect local skiers throughout the year.
